Where Were You When...

Tuesday, February 18

One year ago today, I was boarding a plane for Sydney, Australia.  I went in with no expectations and no idea what I was going to find once I arrived.  The time I spent there was some of the best of my life, with experiences that I could never have planned, but were exactly what I needed!

One of the things that I miss about Australia is the weather, as we currently have about a foot and a half on the ground, with more expected this week.
My main goal in studying abroad was to prove that I could be independent, after living at home for my whole life. Looking back at the experience now, I definitely feel like I learned a lot about myself, and proved that I could be independent.  This point was recently proven to me when I received comments from 2 different professors telling me that it was their pleasure to see my growth over the past semester and my time at RPI.

While I do appreciate the encouragement of my professors, my recent experiences with RPI have not been quite so pleasant.  I had been accepted into the MBA for Global Enterprise Systems with International Scholars Program (ISP), which entailed a summer abroad in Shanghai and Rome.  I was hoping to revive this blog with updates from China and, but I was recently notified that the ISP component was cancelled due to low enrollment.  I was very disappointed, and attempted to make alternate arrangements for some international experience, but had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with the office that I was hoping to coordinate that with, so at this point, I will be staying in Troy for my entire MBA.

Although I am extremely disappointed that I will not be traveling to China and Italy this summer, I am extremely excited to be home for Sarah’s high school graduation, and the planned visit of my grandparents.

As my ideas of what my future is are constantly changing, I learn patience, and am reminded of one of my favorite Bible verses:
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11

Thanks for checking in!

Until Later,
Kaitlyn
